PTE Academic measures your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a single, short test.
PTE Academic is taken via computer in a secure and friendly test center environment. It tests your speaking and writing, reading and listening skills.
There are three parts to the test.
There are 20 different question types ranging from multiple choice to essay writing.
Section 1: Speaking and Writing
This section of the test is 54-67 minutes long and contains seven different question types. It is the longest part of the test. You will be tested on your speaking and writing skills using the English you might hear in an academic setting.
Section 2: Reading
This part of the test is 29-30 minutes long and includes five different question types. As PTE Academic is an integrated skills test, one question type (‘Reading and Writing: Fill in the blank’) also assesses writing skills.
Section 3: Listening
This part of the test is 30-43 minutes long and includes eight different question types.
The questions are based on audio or video clips that start playing automatically. You listen to each audio or video clip once. You are allowed to take notes.

PTE Academic is accepted by more than 3,300 institutions worldwide, including Oxford University, Harvard Business School and Yale. It is also accepted by the governments of Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand for visa purposes.

What score do I need?
Each institution chooses how it determines its points. Typically, you will need to achieve the following minimum scores:
Foundation Courses: Minimum score between 36-50
Bachelor Degrees: minimum score between 51-60
Postgraduate Degrees: minimum score between 57-67
