When should exam preparation start?
For families from Turkey, exam preparation should start by raising the student’s level of English. For students whose first language is English, it would be beneficial to start 18 months before the exam. Since the exam curriculum is different from the school curriculum, there will be no preparation for the exam at school. Therefore, the student can study on his/her own, have his/her family study or take 1-1 lessons.
The exam time is 45-60 minutes.
The 11+ exam consists of two formats.
Multiple choice and Classic
13+ exams are the exams that children take to enter Year 9. 13+ means 13 years and older (11+ means 11 years and older). The 13+ exam is the pre-entry exam for Year 9 at senior schools.
Students in the 13+ exam;
Maths English
Science
Humanities (Geography, history, religious studies etc.)
Language (Latin, French, German, Spanish, etc.).
There are usually 2 ways to enter 13+. The first way is to take the exams in 6th grade: This coincides with the 11+ exams and is really a chance to give students a chance to gain entry in grade 9. The exams may include online ISEB, written math and English, non verbal reasoning, verbal reasoning, school report, interview and group activity. If children pass the assessment, they receive admission from the school, which is usually a conditional offer for children who pass the Common Entrance or similar exams in grade 8.
Very few schools offer admission with a 13+ exam. Consequently, the number of students entering is also very small compared to the 11+ exam. The small number of students does not mean that the chances will increase, but since the number of schools is also small, it is very difficult to get into a 13+ school.
